Meet at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis on 55 4th Street at 5:50am and take a light 2.5 mile jog with Dee. We’ll keep the pace between a 10:30/11:30 minute mile. Walkers are welcome too! This is not a competition; it’s about camaraderie and fitness! We should return to the Marriott by 6:30. Guaranteed to leave you feeling energized the rest of the day!

September 29th, 2010 1 comment

Strength for Life honors the memory of Evelyn Knapp with the inaugural 5k run at Sunken Meadow State Park on Nov. 21, 2010.  The course is 5K (3.107miles) through the scenic trails of Sunken Meadow State Park located along the Long Island Sound.

To register for the race download the race registration form (pdf).  You can also be an individual sponsor, click here to download the sponsor form (pdf).  If you have any questions, you can call or stop in at PTI of Smithtown and speak with Paul.

Evelyn Knapp, co-founder of Personal Training Institute, spent a lifetime promoting exercise and proper nutrition to thousands. Her knowledge, motivation and dedication helped inspire countless individuals to engage in a healthier lifestyle. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Evelyn continued exercising throughout treatment. She would say it gave her a feeling of control in an uncontrollable situation. From there she made a new commitment to promote exercise for cancer patients so they, too, would experience the benefits. In 2005 Evelyn lost her battle with breast cancer. However, her mission was not lost. Strength for Life was formed in Evelyn’s memory so we may continue her work and make her vision a reality.

Strength for Life is a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization providing free exercise classes and wellness weekends to cancer patients and survivors.

PTI: RUNS!

October 5th, 2009 No comments

Athough the 2009 Running of the Bulls Smithtown 5K race got off to a wet start, it didn’t stop trainers and clients alike from showing up to support team PTI Commack. A congratulations goes out to all the particpants who not only raced in the rain, but many of whom placed in their age groups (and went back to work after the race). Commack’s fitness manager Beau Fusco, along with Commack’s most seasoned trainer Vinny Delreyes, ran in under 26 minutes. Bianca Eckhoff and Alyssa Stare, also trainers from Commack, not only ran in the race, but placed first and second in their age groups! Of course our Director of Training Jessica Swanson took first in her age group and was second overall female. Several clients also participated and ran their personal best times!

A special thanks to Justin Guevara of PTI Smithtown and Dee Mullin who came out in the rain to help out and promote with us. Justin is running in the Chicago Marathon next week. This is his first marathon and we are all very proud of him for his hard work and dedication. We wish him the best of luck. We know he’s ready!
