PTI’s Weight Loss Challenge Yielding Results
Canadian Subway® team weighs in on progress & charities that will benefit

Jericho, NY, October 15, 2010– Personal Training Institute® (PTI) started a chain reaction for people to improve their lives by combining nutrition and fitness, and a Subway® team from Canada just reported back their progress regarding PTI’s weight loss challenge they accepted at the 2010 Subway® Convention July 21-25 in Chicago, Illinois.

“I am really proud of everyone on the Canadian Subway team,” commented Carol Kur, MSRD, Co/founder of PTI. “They are proof positive that taking active steps to combine fitness and nutrition can yield great results!”

During the summer Subway convention, PTI’s Kur presented two seminars on health and fitness, and she conducted body fat analysis, as well as provided nutritional advice to conferees. Her message resonated with four members from a Canadian Subway team (see attached photo L-R) Jim Weatherall, Barb Pineau, (PTI’s Carol Kur, center) Mike Lopez and Steve Green, who were spurred on to lose weight. Kur donated a Tanita weight scale to the group. The foursome had their first weigh-in at the convention and has just completed a weigh-in at their Fall Field Meeting in Canada.

Barb, who has raised $2,730 to date, has lost 7.4 lbs and 1.1% body fat. Should she win the challenge, she wishes to split the money between her local food bank and the babies needs bank. Mike won an initial $60 side bet with his 15.8 lb weight loss and .3% body fat, and he has raised $1,520 so far. Should he win, Mike intends to commit his resources to Haliburton Highlands Health Services. Jim, who has raised $600, has lost 6.8 lbs and 1.2% body fat and has selected Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario as his charity of choice. Steve has lost 2.4 lbs and gained 3.1% body fat and plans to give the money to Pedal for Hope, should he win the challenge. The final weigh-in is scheduled at the Spring Field Meeting and will determine who wins and which charity will benefit from all of the money raised.

Evelyn Knapp, co-founder of Personal Training Institute, spent a lifetime promoting exercise and proper nutrition to thousands. Her knowledge, motivation and dedication helped inspire countless individuals to engage in a healthier lifestyle. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Evelyn continued exercising throughout treatment. She would say it gave her a feeling of control in an uncontrollable situation. From there she made a new commitment to promote exercise for cancer patients so they, too, would experience the benefits. In 2005 Evelyn lost her battle with breast cancer. However, her mission was not lost. Strength for Life was formed in Evelyn’s memory so we may continue her work and make her vision a reality.

Strength for Life is a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization providing free exercise classes and wellness weekends to cancer patients and survivors.

PTI Makes Healthy Connections at Subway® Convention

PTI started a chain reaction for ways in which people can improve their lives by combining nutrition and fitness by taking their message to the 2010 Subway® Convention July 21-25 at McCormick Place West Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois. Along with a tradeshow booth to create brand awareness, PTI’s Co/founder Carol Kur was on-hand to conduct body fat analysis and provide nutritional advice for meeting attendees. A Subway team from Canada was so inspired that they challenged one another to a weight loss competition. The foursome will weigh-in this fall and name the charities they wish to benefit should they win the challenge at the spring weigh-in. Their colleagues will weigh-in with betting this fall to up the ante for the competitors and benefit one lucky charity of choice.

Carol also presented two information-packed seminars that drew standing room only crowds on Sunday, July 25th at the 2010 Subway® Convention in downtown Chicago. Her seminars: “30 Minutes to Optimal Health and Fitness” and “How to Be Healthy in Today’s Busy World” included data about weight, fitness and nutrition to help educate conferees. She opened with the sad statistics that about 66% of all adults in the US are overweight, along with nearly one in every four children. By 2015, she reported that this percentage is expected to burgeon to an alarming 75%. She taught conferees that it takes three weeks to burn one pound of fat with cardio alone. A combination of improved diet with exercise at least three times per week yields the best results. Women begin losing lean muscle tissue as early as 14-16 years old and men by 21-25 years old. Each year thereafter, they lose ½ pound of muscle and gain 1 ½ pounds of fat. Carol made a plea for the need to replace lost muscle tissue, which can be rebuilt with strength training. Strength training has tremendous upside. By adding 3 pounds of muscle, you will burn about 115 extra calories per day – an improvement of resting metabolism of about 7%. How long will it take? In about 3-4 months of regular training, you can expect to increase lean muscle by 3-3.5 pounds. Did you know – cardiovascular exercise improves enzyme function but has NO EFFECT on muscle growth? Carol advised conferees that cardio alone does not get the job done. Can too much exercise lead to injury? Yes, you need to let your muscles repair between strength training sessions. Also, you should not do cardio more than 4 days a week for 45 minutes or your risk of injury increases by 85%. At PTI, clients benefit from a personal trainer and one-to-one nutritional guidance to help achieve results in the most safe and effective way.

PTI also donated two treadmills courtesy of its equipment supplier Star Trac®, which were raffled off at the convention and netted $9,300 for the Jared Foundation (www.jaredfoundation.org). Subway® spokesperson Jared Fogle was on-hand at his Foundation booth to promote his cause. Convention attendees had the opportunity to purchase a photograph with Jared to support his Foundation. The Foundation provides programs for children ages 6-14 and support tools and information aimed at helping parents, educators and health care professionals to help prevent childhood obesity by encouraging positive lifestyle choices.

“Personal Training Institute Saved My Life”

May 24th, 2010 1 comment

Franchise Manager Jessica Zimbler

Personal Training Institute of Commack has a client with a truly remarkable story to tell, according to Jessica Zimbler, Franchise Manager.

A 43 year old mother of 3  joined Commack PTI back  in January 2009. At  5″ 1′ 220 lbs and 28% body fat, her goal was to increase her strength and endurance and lose 5 lbs.  She signed up for a Body Pro package and so began her journey.  By December of 2009, she weighed 107 lbs with a body fat of 19%.  All the clients aspired to look exactly like her!

Then, in December of 2009, this perfectly fit and healthy woman was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.  The doctors removed part of her lung and a month ago she finished up her chemotherapy treatments.  In 6 weeks she is going in for a hysterectomy.  Believe  it or not she returned to me the other day to start working out again.  She brought me into my office, sat me down. Although she was clearly fatigued and showing all the signs of a person in recovery, she smiled like always, and told me her doctors attributed her remarkably fast recovery to her exercise regimen.  She took my hand, looked me in the eye and said, “PTI saved my life.”  We did a little crying and went off to do a workout.  She walked out of the gym and told me unequivocally that by August she will be running and doing body weight chins again.

Personal Training Institute Gets A Pat On The Back

Here’s an email that we received from another happy client:

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing this e-mail to tell you how great this particular this gym is. First of all, every time I walk into the gym, I am acknowledged and greeted not only by the person seated at the front  desk but by every trainer I pass on my way to the locker room! I find the staff always accommodating and so helpful - no matter how small (or dumb) the question is, & everyone is always pleasant and down to earth.  Most importantly,The attitude and atmosphere is always positive,  which can be tough because with the economy the way it is people have problems.  I must attribute this attitude and atmosphere to the manager Rosie Santana. While everyone is exceptional in their own right, I believe that the manager sets the tone and the assistant manager (Nicole Spitzer) reinforces it. I received this e-mail address from one of the trainers at PTI in Rockville Centre, NY. Since I don’t know who you are, I implore you to make sure that this e-mail gets to the right person/people because so often people are quick to complain and point out what’s wrong but no one stops to say what’s right.
Truly & Sincerely,
Rita D.
PS- I must add that while I have trained with different people at the Rockville Centre branch and they are all so good I am impartial to Anthony P. with whom I have standing appointment.  He is a really great trainer!
