PTI Protocol Alerts Member to Health Condition

At PTI everyone is required to wear a Heart Rate Monitor when they work out. This is to keep exercises in check and make sure the client is getting the best work out in their Target Heart Rate Zone. Also wearing a heart rate monitor can protect the safety of the client. Here is a story, from one of our locations located in Bellmore, how a heart rate monitor helped save a life…

“Two weeks ago at PTI Bellmore a client of ours, Barbara, came for one of her weekly workouts. As Barbara began her warm up, she noticed that her heart rate monitor (HRM) displayed 190 bpm. Barbara has been wearing a HRM for some time and this was unusual – at best. She thought the HRM was broken and tried one of our’s, which displayed a similar reading. Still not convinced that the reading was accurate because she felt fine, she used the handles on the cardio equipment, without the HRM strap, and again received a similar reading. When this situation was brought to the attention of the owner, Sam Thomas, he suggested a trip to the hospital.

From PTI, Barbara’s daughter took her to the hospital where Barbara was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (A. Fib.) and now has it controlled with medication. Moral of this story: Without the heart rate monitor, Barbara would have continued to work out and put herself at risk for a moral fatal condition. “
